The BEETS Team (Barnet Education Employment and Training Support) works to support young people in Barnet between the ages of 13 and 19 by providing high quality Information, Advice and Guidance (Careers Guidance) regarding Post 16 Options, and for those aged up to 25 with EHC plans.

If young people are in education, employment or training, this service is paid for by the provider (for example, schools, FE Colleges, training providers, etc). This is known as a traded service. If young people are not in education, employment or training (NEET) after the end of Y11, this service is free. 

The team has Level 6 trained and experienced Careers Advisers, and has attained the Matrix Quality standard for the delivery of Information Advice and Guidance.

The team also works with many outside providers in order to ensure that YP get the help that they need, for example:

  • Job Centre Plus
  • Counselling Services

Information advice and Guidance

For students in education and training year 8-13 we will deliver:

  • Careers Interviews for Students in Years 8-13
  • Careers Events for Schoolsincluding Apprenticeship/Employer Events
  • Helping Schools Senior Management Teams develop Careers Strategy including working towards the Investor in Careers Quality Standard

Mentoring

Providing one to one mentoring support from an experienced mentor on a traded service basis for School students and other referrals who require additional support to achieve their goals.

Specialist Careers Advice for Young People with Education and Health Care Plans

Provided by a specialist adviser in this field on a traded service basis to support these young people with career choices and options for the future.

 

What the BEETS Team can do for young people who are NEET

Events and Careers Fairs

Organising large and small scale Careers/Post 16 options and Apprenticeships events for Barnet Young People 16-19 who are seeking future options or who are not in education employment or training  to link them with FE Colleges, Training Providers and Employers who can help them with opportunities.

One-to-One Careers Guidance

The team will provide individual careers guidance for YP. This can take place across the borough, and as often as is necessary to help them achieve sustainable education, employment or training.

Group Work / Work Club Sessions

Designed for Barnet Young People 16-19 who are not in education employment or training to assist in developing employability skills CVs and interview techniques; often organised jointly with Training Providers and Employers.

Using Computers in Careers Guidance

The BEETS Advisers use a variety of digital questionnaires to deliver IAG to young people as well as a variety of social media including Facebook.
