0-25 Disability Service – Notice re COVID19

This information is for any parent or carer of a child or young person who receives a service from Barnet’s 0-25 Disability Service

We appreciate that many parents and carers will be very anxious about COVID19 and some of the children and young people make be particularly vulnerable. Our staff in the 0-25 Disability Service are trying to respond to your enquiries as quickly as possible. Unfortunately this is an unprecedented situation and we may not have all the answers but we will do the best we can.  We would ask you keep up to date with the guidance from the NHS . There is also a Barnet Facebook page which is trying to keep the community updated. Some voluntary organisations may also be able to offer advice and assistance.

If a Social Worker is due to visit you, they will call ahead and check if anyone in the household has any symptoms and whether the visit should proceed. It may be,  as an alternative to visiting, Social Workers will keep in touch with you by phone or perhaps even Skype. Please feel free to contact your social worker or the team if you have an issue you think we might be able to help with or if you just want to talk through your concerns.

If you receive Direct Payments and your carer has to self-isolate please contact us to discuss possible options.

If your care and support is supplied by an agency  or external provider they should have a contingency to cope with any staff shortages.

Please insist that any carers coming into your home wash their hands thoroughly on arrival and departure. Please ensure handles on equipment and surfaces in your home are cleaned appropriately.

Our staff are determined to offer the best service we can under the most difficult circumstances and we are also likely to experience staff shortages. Please bear with us.

Our duty worker contact details are 0208 359 5608 . Please note this number can only be used for those parents whose child receives a service from 0-25 Disability Service. All other referrals need to go via the MASH (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub) using the number above.

Short Breaks

  • Short Breaks Statement 2021

Short Breaks offer activities for disabled children and young people to make sure they have the same opportunities as other children to have fun, spend time away from home with their friends, and develop skills and independence. Short Breaks also give you a chance to take a break from your caring responsibilities. These breaks can include day, evening, overnight and weekend activities and can take place in the child's own home, in a community or residential setting. They come in a range of formats and each one can last just a few hours to a few days, and occasionally longer, depending on the type of provision and the needs of the child and their family.
