BELS are excited to offer SCERTS Model ( Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Supports) virtual training to all our schools and settings across Barnet.

See: The SCERTS® Model for further information.

The SCERTS Framework provides a robust, evidence based and multi-disciplinary approach to assessment and planning for Autistic Young People (YP) and others with SEND.

SCERTS is an educational approach designed to identify and develop skills in areas of difference in individuals with a diagnosis of Autism or those that present with Social communication needs.

The SCERTS focus on transactional support allows us to learn to adapt our approach and the environment to foster positive relationships and honour the uniqueness of Autistic individuals.

In Barnet we strive to support autistic individuals to be their authentic selves and learn in a way that works best for them. The SCERTS model helps us to do this .

The SCERTS assessment process ensures that:

  • functional, meaningful and developmentally appropriate goals and objectives are selected
  • individual differences in a child’s style of learning, interests, and motivations are respected
  • the culture and lifestyle of the family are understood and respected

The SCERTS model has been used as a framework to support Autistic young people in Barnet schools and settings for over a decade. SCERTS enables settings to use a variety of interventions, in a holistic way, to support SEN and Autistic Young People to make progress and thrive.

SCERTS 2-day training course is for Headteachers, SenCos, Inclusion Leads and other professionals working with Autistic Young People or those presenting with similar needs.

SCERTS TRAINING FLYER

SCERTS is used widely across all our Barnet schools, so please can you ensure that at least one member of staff in your school/college attends this training. Ideally this should include the Senco, as we would like all Sencos in Barnet to have had this training. Other professionals are also welcome.
