Description of activity
At Livingstone we have a special resourced provision for children with Autism, which includes an assessment provision for pre-school children aged 3 and above, with on-going diagnosis of ASD. Our Kingfisher Nursery forms part of Early Years Foundation Stage and provides placements for 12 children: 6 in the morning from 8:45-11:45 and 6 in the afternoon 12.15-3:15 - 5 days a week.
The children are taught in a specialist setting with highly qualified and experienced staff and have access to the mainstream nursery in line with their individual abilities and needs
The school adapts the EYFS curriculum and learning environment for pupils with ASC according to the specific needs of the child and works in cooperation with multi agencies including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Paediatricians. In addition to this, the children have access to a soft play room, sensory room and their own playground all designed to meet their needs.
Pupils are assessed during the time spent in the provision in close co-operation with parents. The assessment helps determine the resources the children will need in their next educational placement including the Education and Healthcare Plan if needed.
Referral Criteria
Parents/Carers are encouraged to visit Kingfisher Nursery if the professionals involved with their child feel this may be a suitable pre-school placement. Referrals to Kingfisher come via early years professionals. Admissions are discussed at a panel held in the summer term each year. If additional places are still available, referrals are considered by the panel on a case by case basis.
