In Barnet, we offer a number of services which include family support; a toy library; recreational schemes for people with disabilities; drop-in services for families; parenting programmes and workshops as well as Health and Wellbeing schemes. Our Buckets and Spades Centre, located in Finchley, North London, offers overnight short breaks and recreational activities for children and young people up to 18 years who have severe and multiple learning and associated physical disabilities. From our Kennedy Leigh Children and Family Centre in Hendon, we provide the following services: • Unity, our recreational service for children and young people with disabilities aged 5-11 and 12-18, running after-school and on Sundays during term-time. • In-Betweeners, Norwood’s recreational transition club for young people with learning disabilities aged 16-25, running on alternate Sundays during term-time. • Binoh, supporting children and young people who are having difficulties with their school work. Binoh enables pupils to make academic and behavioural progress and maintain their school placement or find an appropriate school placement. • Norwood Nursery, a high quality, integrated nursery for children aged two to five. We provide an inclusive play and learning environment which enables children to develop skills to support them in school. Through the above services, we aim to enable children and young people with disabilities to: • Enjoy themselves, socialise and make new friends • Develop social skills and build self esteem • Access a normal activities in a safe and stimulating environment as well as their local community • Express their feelings and emotions in a safe outlet with qualified specialist staff • Gain valuable social and informal educational development • Take positive risks to increase independence, make the most of their abilities and maximise their potential in a safe environment out of home • Access a local therapeutic environment, which encourages children to explore independently and interact more fully There are no limitations on the amount of time that we support a child or young person. Norwood provides a number of bespoke services throughout people’s lives and this enables us to offer a service to a person for as long as necessary and/or signpost the people we support to other Norwood services as appropriate.
