Description of activity

The specialist paediatric service in Barnet provides care to all children who receive home enteral tube feeding. The aim of the service is to ensure all children who are enterally fed receive adequate nutrition and hydration to meet their demands for growth and development. The service also provides children and families with monthly enteral feeding supplies required to deliver their enteral feeds. Children who can safely manage foods and drinks orally are tube weaned where appropriate. Children are offered visits within their own homes, at clinic or in school. The team works closely with families and their health professionals, schools and social care staff. Training is provided for staff as required and support is provided to children’s Education Health and Care plan.

Appropriate Prescribing
The paediatric appropriate prescribing dietitian in Barnet provides specialist care to all children on specialist feeds and formulas. The aim of the service is to ensure all children are prescribed the appropriate specialist infant formula / oral nutritional supplement. Based on regular nutritional monitoring and assessment of the child, the dietitian works with GPs to ensure the most appropriate specialist infant formula / oral nutritional supplement is prescribed and to ensure these products are discontinued as is appropriate.
