Parent Support Programme for parents of children age 11-16 who are on the CAMHS waiting list

We are now open for new referrals for our 4th Parents Support Programme aimed at parents/carers whose children and young people are on the CAMHS treatment waiting list. The pilot project is a collaborative work between Brandon Centre and Mind in London, providing psychoeducational and broad strategies for parents whose young people experience mental health.

This is an 8-week online programme for parents whose CYP (11-16) are on the CAMHS treatment waiting list with the primary presentation of anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidality.

Parents of CYP who have a primary presentation or are waiting for the diagnosis of autism, or ADHD, have significant learning disabilities or experience complex mental health issues and eating disorders, unfortunately, will not be suited to attend this programme at this cohort.

Parents Support Group is a safe and confidential space for parents to learn and build up the skills to help them cope with those difficult times.

Parents Support Programme combines clinical expertise, social support and local links the programme and will focus on the following:

Providing psychoeducation about young people’s mental health to parents/carers

Providing broad strategies and guidance to parents/carers on how to support their young person who is struggling with their mental health

Reducing parental distress and improving their resilience and wellbeing so that they, in turn, are better able to support their young person while they wait for treatment

Offering support through peer group interactions

Offering signposting/social prescription for further support where needed

Supporting parents at a time that they experience concern and distress about their child’s mental health difficulties

As the project runs across 3 main ICS regions simultaneously, we offer 3 different times so parents can choose which programs would suit them most.

Next Parents Support Programme dates and times:

  • 25th January from 5.30-7.0pm (North Central London)
  • 25th January from 1.30-3 pm (South West London)
  • 27th January from 10-11.30 (North West London)
